Women’s Golf Apparel
Thursday, December 29th, 2011It’s such a great time to be a woman golfer. We’ve got our terrific LPG A pros to inspire us. Equipment manufacturers and retailers
are (finally!) paying closer attention to us. And women’s golf apparel is entering a golden age. Today’s golf apparel designers are creating outfits for women that are both fashionable and functional. It’s easier than ever to show the world how great we feel when we step out onto the course.
It’s also more important than ever to keep our eye out for golf clothing design trends. After all, who wants to miss out on the latest design fun?
Fortunately, it’s easy to put together an up-to-date golf wardrobe that also captures your personal style.
First, look at general fashion trends. Take color, for instance. Pant one, a color authority that advises fashion designers, has picked “mimosa” (vibrant yellow) as a hot new color in women’s clothing. So it’s no surprise that a splash of yellow is brightening up the blues, pinks, and blacks that have dominated the women’s golf apparel palette in recent years.
So go ahead, show off your fashion eye! Add a bit of yellow to your golf wardrobe. Bobby Jones is showing polo and pullovers in Sun Yellow. Look for the Nectar shades in Kate Lord‘s spring Sorbet Lime. Leon Levin offers its elegant button front ladies polo in Lemonade. And the Summer fun sleeveless polo from Quagmire Golf comes in Lemon.
Another way to spot golf apparel trends is to watch what cutting edge designers are doing with their upcoming collections.
Karen Cantrell of Lady Golf Sportswear, for instance, follows brands like Master‘s The Choice to Win from Austria, Sportswear from Germany, Lilly‘s of Beverly Hills, Tail Active Wear, and Sport. Designers like these, she says, lead the way in the golf apparel industry.
Trends in women’s golf apparel are changing more rapidly than ever before, Cantrell adds. “Manufacturers realize that the ‘same old same old’ doesn’t cut it any more with the modern woman,” she notes. “Manufacturers once thought they could dictate the style to women. Today, they’ve realized that women don’t buy what they don’t like.”
So, as designers get smart about what women golfers want, we have more freedom than ever to put together a terrific wardrobe.
“Women should consider their own style,” says Cantrell. “So often, consumers just follow the country club golfers and wear exactly what they wear because they are afraid to show who they really are. Dress to please yourself! A trend is just that–a trend. It won’t last. Make sure you’re comfortable with the look you pick.”
