The Side Job
Last month I ended up having to pick up a side job. One of my buddies runs an auto body shop and the first thing he had me do was tighten all of the locking lug nuts on all of the cars that he was currently working on. He said the businesses has been really slow for the past few months but that he has been able to weather the storm because he has such a dedicated customer base. It took him quite a bit of time to build up this business, so he’s doing everything he can to make it in this difficult economy. One of the things he’s even done is started saving all of the lug nuts that he can find. He tells me all the time that its little costs like these that can weigh on the company’s profits.
I do a lot of things like sweeping up and filing simply because I don’t have the training and skills to work on any of the cars. One of the things I’ve been able to do is apply the auto touch up paint, simply because this is an easy thing to do. Hopefully as the months begin to pass I’ll be able to acquire more skills so that I can not only make more, but also to be a big help to the business.
